Dr. Gardner


Dr. Gardner is originally from Concord, North Carolina, where he graduated from Northwest Cabarrus High School in 1991. He did his undergraduate study at Belmont Abbey College and The University of North Carolina at Charlotte from 1991 – 1995 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology. Dr. Gardner completed his four years post graduate education at Sherman College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2001. While at Sherman College, Dr. Gardner earned many honors, including Intern of the Year and Class Ambassador. In 2010, Dr. Gardner successfully completed a comprehensive training program in whiplash and brain injury traumatology from the Spine Research Institute of San Diego.

Immediately after graduating, Dr. Gardner came to the Hay Clinic to work with Dr. Hay and has successfully continued providing quality chiropractic care for the residents of Gaston County in the same tradition that Dr. Hay established in 1975. Dr. Gardner is a member of the American Chiropractic Association and the North Carolina Chiropractic Association. Dr. Gardner has been married to his high school sweetheart, Melissa, since 1995. They have four children, Jerry Ryan (2001), Mallory (2003), Jonah (2007) and Jillian (2011).

Dr. Cole


Joy E. Cole is “THE” female doctor in the practice. She has her certification in pediatric chiropractics and is focused primarily on family care. She has a gentle touch and a caring personality that is welcoming to both the newborn and the elderly, as well as everyone in between.

Dr. Cole uses a variety of techniques to help each patient receive the best possible care she can provide. These techniques include Gonstead, Diversified, Thompson Drop, and Activator Methods. She is also proficient in Webster’s In-Utero Constraint Technique, helping many pregnant patients have healthy pregnancies and deliveries.

Dr. Cole is a native of Gastonia, having graduated from Ashbrook High School. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Gardner-Webb College in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. She then earned her Doctorate in Chiropractic after four years at Life College in Marietta, Georgia. She has been in practice since 1995, both in Gastonia as well as a one-year internship in Forest City, North Carolina. She and her husband, Joseph Ramey, are proud parents of a son, Aaron.

Dr. Travis


Dr. Travis is a native of Conover, North Carolina, where he attended Bunker Hill High school and was active in both baseball and football. He later went to East Carolina University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology. 

Following his college career, Dr. Travis followed his dream of helping people by attending Life University where he graduated with honors and attained his Doctor of Chiropractic degree. In 2010, Dr. Travis successfully completed a comprehensive training program in whiplash and brain injury traumatology from the Spine Research Institute of San Diego.

Dr. Travis has been residing in Gastonia since 2005. He and his beautiful wife, Allison have been married since 2010 and have a daughter, Elise.

Dr. Hay


Dr. Hay is originally from Atlanta, Georgia, and is a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic. He opened his practice in Gastonia, July 1, 1975 and proudly served Gaston County residents for over 30 years. Dr. Hay is a member of the American Chiropractic Association and the North Carolina Chiropractic Association. He has served as Secretary, Vice President and President of the North Carolina Chiropractic Association.

Dr. Hay has also received a number of professional honors presented by the State Association. He has received the Special Recognition Award, Distinguished Service Award, Service par Excellence Award, Outstanding Service Award and Doctor of the Year Award. He also was granted a Fellowship in the International College of Chiropractors.

Dr. Hay has been retired from active practice since 2005.
